A Casual Backyard Wedding in McHenry, IL

A Casual Backyard Wedding in McHenry, IL

Back in May I received a phone call from a familiar voice.  It was a neighbor I have know for about 8 years.  Her question to me was “Are you still planning weddings?”  A week later I had a contract to plan my first Bride and Bride wedding.  It was on, we had 4 months to plan their backyard wedding in September.  Knowing that Amanda had hosted several catered dinner parties before I had to make sure she got to enjoy this party hands off.  Well, she did build the beer tap…  I truly enjoyed my time with this couple guiding them through each step of the planning process.   Who wouldn’t enjoy a food tasting with 2 bottles of Orin Swift wine?!  In 10 years I have never had someone bring wine to their tasting but my expectations have now been raised, LOL.  Check out the photos taken from their backyard wedding. Best wishes Amanda & Lori! A Boho Chic Wedding at the Byron Colby Barn, IL

A Boho Chic Wedding at the Byron Colby Barn, IL

CORY + MICHAEL October 17th, 2015 I first met Cory and Michael at a Starbucks that ended up being in a train station…lesson learned: check to see if the Starbucks is a free standing building before setting up a consultation. They informed me of their love for archery and how causal they intend the wedding to be.  They expected around 75 guests and the most important thing to them was their photos.  I then met with the couple and Cory’s parents a month before the wedding and she was a little flustered by all of the questions and forms she had to complete for other vendors.  I assured her I would take care of it all as the timeline we create in the weeks leading up to the wedding day answer most vendor questions.  The joy in her face to hear she could hand over all final details to me was most rewarding. As most of you know I have now been helping couples with their wedding day for 10 years and I am always quick to tell my clients that I am not insurance to a hiccup free day, however we have the knowledge and experience to handle these situations when THEY DO arise so the couple can continue enjoying their day as hoped.  I can honestly say that this one was my first and probably only wedding where we DID NOT have any hiccups to address!  Here are some of my favorite highlights from Cory + Michael’s wedding. A Garden Wedding | Private Estate in Barrington, IL

A Garden Wedding | Private Estate in Barrington, IL

I got the pleasure of working with Katy and Eric on their July garden wedding.  I can’t wait to share with you all the photos and personal touches of this wedding, however, lets get to know Katy and Eric first.  Katy is a digital artist which gave her the skills to create her fabulous invitations.  Eric is a Chicago firefighter and also owns a local tree removal company.   Together they are adventurous and laid back and I am so happy they allowed us to ensure their hard work and special details were executed just right on their wedding day.  Their wedding took place at a garden estate in Barrington, IL that belonged to friends. To get all of the guests to this remarkable location, Katy created these breathtaking invitations in a box tied with a bow. Getting ready, Katy was able to enjoy some mimosas and quality time with her girls and Mom. Once the shoes were on, it was time to see her future husband, Eric. As she stepped out the door of this garden estate in Barrington, IL, her romantic fun loving self GLOWED! The first kiss was not only caught on camera by J.Brown Photography, but the Brides brother was hiding nearby to catch a glimpse of this memorable moment.     Katy and Eric adore their dog, Kayla, so she became a big part of their wedding and got to be the flower girl! Just wait till you see how she arrived for the Ceremony. Katy was escorted by her dog Kayla in this 1949 Buick Super Convertible.  What a wonderful photo prop it made too! Katy and Eric met...
What??? NO KIDS???

What??? NO KIDS???

Kids can make a HUGE impression on a wedding and depending on who you ask, that impression can either be magical or frightful.  It is guest list time and you now have to make the call.  There are 4 stages of the “Kid Decision” and here are some tips to make it through them all. Who Is Included? It is OK to only invite kids of family or kids of friends You can also put an age limit on your guest list such as over 12 or over 18 Informing Your Guests Include “and Family” on the invitation envelope if kids ARE invited You can also write each specific guests name on the response card DO NOT print “Adult Only” on the invitation, instead have your family, bridal party and friends help spread the word You CAN put “Adult Only” on the wedding website “I Didn’t See Katie and Luke’s Names On The Invitation, They Are Invited, RIGHT???” Stand strong! Be firm! Inform them you are limiting the guest list due to budget restraints and you can not include everyone Explain your inviting parameters so there are no hurt feelings And they STILL come… Don’t make a scene! At the ceremony you can kindly ask them to move to the back of the church if the kids start to fuss At the reception get them a seat discretely  and if you are asked by other guests why they got to bring their kids you simply say: “They couldn’t find a sitter in time and brought them without my knowledge” Good luck and just remember to make light of the unexpected and ask your photographer to get photos of those...

Easy Tips To A Flawless Hair and Makeup Trial

Easy Tips To A Flawless Hair and Makeup Trial

Leslie, over at Style Onsite has kindly shared some easy tips for your hair and makeup trial.  Read on for great advice.   Bring lots of pictures:  Hair and makeup artists are very visual people so pictures are important. Having more than one picture is always good too.   When picking out pictures pick people who look like you:  You will have a better chance of being able to achieve your look. Ex. If you are a blonde with fine hair don’t pick the picture of the brunette with thick hair down to her butt!   Make sure you are specific on what you like and don’t like about each picture:  Ex. I like the front of this up-do but not the back, I love her red lipstick but she has too much blush etc.   Once you go over everything you like and want ask your artist to repeat it back to you:  It’s not rude at all, being on the same page is important and way more efficient   Don’t be afraid to speak up during the trail:  Whether it’s positive or negative. Ex. I like the way you did the part or there’s to much height in the front. It helps the artist know your wants.    When you have the perfect final look and your feel like a beautiful bride take lots of pictures: Sometimes when a trial is done weeks in advance it’s hard to remember exactly how you wanted it. It’s always good to have a reference to go back to!   Thank you Leslie for putting together these fabulous tips!   For more great...
5 Wedding Tips You Need To Know

5 Wedding Tips You Need To Know

Check out these important wedding tips that you should know beforehand. DO NOT BE THE CONTACT PERSON ON YOUR OWN WEDDING DAY On your wedding day you will not want your phone ringing from your vendors wanting to know where it was you wanted the photo booth set up or how many kids are at table 3 and 7.  This is one of the many perks of hiring a wedding coordinator.  If you don’t have a wedding coordinator, make sure to give your vendors  contact info who will have access to all details pertaining to your wedding. DON’T MISS YOUR CEREMONY Your ceremony is a very important part of your wedding day and I guarantee you will not remember it all, so if your budget doesn’t allow for a videographer to capture the special occasion, ask someone who will be attending to capture it for you.  There is also a wonderful company called Vanilla Video who can capture the raw footage for a very reasonable rate. WHO CARES IF SOME GUESTS DONT SHOW UP As you look around the room, you may notice some empty chairs that you did not expect.  Don’t focus on those empty seats, but on the people that did make it to share in the celebration of you and your spouse. STEP BACK AND TAKE IN THE VIEW It is very easy to get wrapped up in the events of the day and conversations with your guests, but make sure you take some time during your reception to look in on your wedding as an outsider.  Take a mental picture of the room décor, your family...

New Adventures

So…Here it goes.  We have had some exciting new things happen at Creatively Yours recently and I am now entering a whole new world known as blogging.  I think I can compare my feelings right now to many of my clients when they first come to me. “Where in the world do I start?” “What is most important?” You may think “Well you are a professional, you should know what to say”, but let me tell you I am not that good with words and have never enjoyed writing.  I think my best bet is to go for fun, friendly and fabulous!  Just as the business has grown over time, I can only hope the new blog site will do the same.   Here are some photos from our very first wedding in 2006: How we have grown… Photos from our latest wedding in October 2013: I am looking forward to sharing great idea’s and fun conversations with all of you.  Here’s to new...
